BETHESDA, Md., October 7, 2025 — Voters, community leaders, and elected officials rallied on Sunday in support of Drew Morrison and his vision for a better, more affordable Montgomery County.
Sunday’s event showcased new endorsements and marked the start of a busy fall period in which Morrison and campaign volunteers will be knocking doors, hosting meet and greets, and winning the support of voters in neighborhoods across Bethesda, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Glen Echo, and Potomac. The Democratic primary is June 23, 2026.
“I’m running for the Montgomery County Council because I have the breadth and depth of experience to meet this critical moment for the community where I grew up. Montgomery County is facing unprecedented threats, and we need a bold, new vision for the future,” Morrison said. “My priorities as Councilmember will be to create good-paying private-sector jobs and lower the cost of doing business in the County; to lower the cost of living, particularly around energy, housing, and childcare; to ensure our school system delivers for every student; and to build the infrastructure we need to address traffic congestion and safety, create new parks for our neighborhoods, and make our County cleaner and greener.”
Montgomery County District 7 Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, a member of the Public Safety and Health and Human Services Committees and former Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maryland, enthusiastically endorsed Morrison and told attendees she’s looking forward to working with him on the Council.
“I’m supporting Drew because we need common sense, pragmatic, thorough, and well-articulated policy at the Montgomery County Council. And that is what Drew will bring to the table,” Luedtke said. “It is such a privilege to know we have the potential to have someone so knowledgeable and so well-versed in county government and in state government. Drew’s going to be ready to serve, learn from, and lead our residents on complex issues from day one. That is the ethos Drew brings to his work.”
Nancy Abeles, a Bethesda resident for four decades with extensive experience representing the County and her Bethesda Crest community on a wide range of civic and policy issues, told the Campaign Kickoff crowd about her experience working with Morrison while he was a Legislative Senior Aide to former District 1 Councilmember Roger Berliner (2006-2018).
“I first met Drew when I contacted then-Councilmember Beliner’s office regarding the BRAC base realignment project happening on 355, and my concerns and input were listened to by Drew who helped our community get involved,” Abeles said. “Later, Drew collaborated with me and other BRT advisory members, where Drew created an environment where we all felt listened to, respected, and where our input was counted as something very valuable. Working with Drew on these transportation projects demonstrated to me his leadership abilities up close and his ability to work with the community. He’s shown that beyond planners and beyond elected officials, it takes a village to truly achieve progress. I know that Drew will bring this same ethos of working to bring stakeholders together to move our community forward to the Montgomery County Council.”
As a member of Councilmember Berliner’s staff, Morrison advanced major policy reforms including creating the first County-level Green Bank in the nation to finance job-creating clean energy projects, bringing Montgomery County into the Vision Zero movement to eliminate traffic deaths, and protecting the environment and ratepayers during the Pepco-Exelon merger.
He is a transportation and planning expert, and supported County efforts to improve transit access to job centers, such as the new Great Seneca Transit Network in Rockville and Gaithersburg. Since 2023, Morrison has served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Maryland Department of Transportation.
Morrison, 33, grew up playing B-CC Baseball and MSI Soccer and performing at Imagination Stage. He graduated from Yale University with a degree in Economics and Political Science, with a concentration in Urban Studies, before obtaining his master’s degrees in City Planning and Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
